Hey everyone! As always there is a lot happening to make our streets better in Costa Mesa. Let’s dive in ⤵️

Fairview Developmental Center (FDC) Survey is still open!

The consultants running the preliminary planning phases for the Fairview Developmental Center want your feedback on potential land use options (pictured below). We also encourage you to participate in the Community Survey the City has put together to gather feedback on the three concepts. The survey closes August 30th so head over there and make your voice heard before the deadline! There will also be a Planning Commission Study Session on the topic on September 9th at 6:00pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The session will focus on the presented land use concepts, outreach summary/survey results, and a summary of the financial feasibility analysis conducted on the land use concepts. The goal of the meeting is to obtain input from the Commission and the public on preferred components of each of the land use concepts, that will ultimately feed into the draft preferred plan. You can write in or share your comments at the meeting.

Meetup with others working for better streets at the Active Transportation Mixer!

Santa Ana Active Streets, Walk & Rollers, and Latino Health Access are teaming up to host an active transportation mixer on Thursday, August 29 at 7:00pm at Native Son Bar in Santa Ana! There are so many great projects that we should be collaborating on–so this is the perfect opportunity to meet and greet some like-minded folks in our neighboring cities.

Updates on our Fall General Meeting - Thursday, September 5 at 6:00pm at Green Cheek Beer Co!

We’re gearing up for a busy fall in the city, especially with the 2024 election season nearly upon us. So let’s meet up, grab a beer, and catch up on the summer before things get real-real. So please join us for a casual meetup on Thursday, September 5th, at 6:00pm, at Green Cheek Beer Co.! Everybody is welcome. If you’re new and want to RSVP so we can look out for you, send us an email at info@cmabs.org.

A historical Costa Mesa bike tour? Yes, please!

Council Member Arlis Reynolds (District 5) is teaming up with the Costa Mesa Historical Society to lead a bike tour focused on Costa Mesa history and we are here for it. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 28 at 2:00pm and starts at the Costa Mesa Historical Society–so mark your calendars right now. We encourage you to ride your historical/classic bicycle if you have one!

Lillördag to crash the OC Public Works bike/walk improvements meeting!

Breaking with tradition, The Lillördag crew will forgo meeting at their traditional spot at Lions Park and instead meet at the Muth Interpretive Center in Newport Beach on Wednesday, August 28 at 5:30pm, so that members can weigh in on this important local meeting (see below for more details). The ride will then begin at 6:30pm. Bring lights!

OC Public Works Open House Meeting on potential active transportation improvements near Santa Ana Avenue and University Drive

As previewed above, OC Public Works will hold an Open House to discuss potential active transportation upgrades to three stretches of unincorporated Orange County, which are right next to Costa Mesa’s Eastside neighborhood. Potential improvements include bicycle lanes on Santa Ana Avenue up to Bristol Street and on University Drive, and sidewalk improvement on Mesa Drive. The southbound side of Santa Ana Ave. behind the country club is particularly crucial!

These improvements are NOT yet in the OC capital improvement plan, so these projects need your IN-PERSON support!

The Santa Ana Avenue / Kaiser Elementary School bicycle lane project got some great press!

We are also hearing so much positive feedback and gratitude from parents who checked out the new lanes this week. Once again, great work Costa Mesa for addressing this!

Public Works continues pressing our bus shelter contractor to clean up our shelters!

We are always delighted to open up the City Hall Snapshot and see that further progress is being made on cleaning up our long-neglected bus shelters, some of which were in dire need of attention and maintenance. This time Clear Channel, our contractor, spruced up the shelter at Harbor and Gisler, which serves OCTA Route 43. Great job, Costa Mesa!

That’s all for now. Have a great week!
